Dubai Municipality to Replace 150,000 Lights with Dubai Lamps

Dubai Municipality (DM) has announced plans to replace 150,000 of its lights with Dubai Lamps.

The roll-out, which has already commenced, will see the replacement of compatible luminaries at DM’s head office in Deira, branch centres, and utilities across the emirate.

Lighting systems compatible with the Dubai Lamp will be replaced periodically in a bid to save and rationalise energy within the framework of DM’s development plan.

Designed to consume significantly less energy than traditional lightbulbs, the Dubai Lamp is available in 1W, 2W, and 3W variants.

Commenting on the roll-out, Jabir Al Ali, director of DM’s general maintenance department, said: “We have started our sustainable development step in energy saving by using Dubai Lamps in our buildings, after it was officially agreed to replace all lamps in the municipality.

“Dubai Lamp is one of the future accelerators, and it aims to reduce energy demand and carbon dioxide emissions. It is a global model of innovation in the field of energy and lighting,” he added.

Dubai Lamps can be used to replace conventional bulbs ranging from 20W to 60W.

Eng Abdul Amir Fadlani, head of the government buildings and utilities maintenance section within DM’s maintenance department, said: “Dubai Lamp does not generate heat and thus saves cooling comfort in the lighted rooms, [reducing] the load on the air conditioning.

“It is less expensive than other lamps, and the average lifespan of the lamp is up to 25 years,” he noted.

In June 2017, DM announced plans to donate 100,000 Dubai Lamps for government housing projects in Dubai.

In collaboration with Philips Lighting, DM aims to produce 10 million Dubai Lamps by 2021.
